Hiking Around Mallorca

You're spoilt for choice when it comes to walks and hikes around this beautiful island. Enjoy any one of the coastline walks and admire the sea with its hidden coves and crystal blue waters. Or try some more challenging mountain trails and discover pure water fountains, wild goats and stalagmite caves. You may even spot one of Spain's rare breeds - the eagle. 

The best time for hiking is probably spring or late summer, when the temperatures are slightly cooler and the crowds have disappeared.  Spring is a wonderful time to walk through the countryside, when flowers and greenery fill the landscapes.  Late summer and autumn may not be so green but it is still warm enough for a swim should you happen to come accross a hidden bay.

The Archduke's Bridlepath

Valldemossa is located near the west coast of Mallorca. This walk was mapped out by Archduke Ludwig Salvatr during tours of his estates by mule. As well as spectacular coastal views, it gives an introduction to traditional mountain industries. Alaro - Castle of Alaró

Alaró is located in the foothills of the Tramuntana mountains, between Palma and Inca. Leaving Alaró by the road marked PM120 leading to Orient, you soon find the road leading up to the castle on the left, with its corresponding sign. Camp de Mar - Sa Mola

Camp de Mar is located on the south-west coast of Mallorca. From Camp de Mar you take the road marked PM120 in the direction of the Port d'Andratx, which provides some magnificient views of the coastline. Capdepera - Lighthouse of Cala Ratjada

Capdepera is located in the far north-east of Mallorca. In the village of Capdepera itself, before beginning the hike, you can visit the gloriously restored Castle of Capdepera. From there, the two kilometres to Cala Ratjada is a pleasant short walk. After climbing to the Cala Ratjada lighthouse, you can enjoy a swim at one of the many nearby beaches. Escorca - Monastery of Lluc

Escorca is located deep in the Tramuntana mountains. From Inca there is a regular bus line to Lluc, but if you really want to enjoy the scenery, it is advisable to get off at Caimari and then continue on foot to the monastery. The walk takes about three hours, but is really worth it. ...read more

Felanitx - Monastery of San Salvador

Felanitx is located in the south-east of Mallorca. Take the main road from Felanitx in the direction of Porto Colom and after 2 km you will see, clearly marked, the road leading up to the " Monastery of San Salvador". Inca - Hermitage of Santa Magdalena

Inca can be reached either by train from Palma or by car. Following the main road to Alcudia, about 2km from Inca on the right-hand side you will find the way back to the hermitage. Petra is located towards the middle of the island, about 8km west of Manacor. The walk up to the hermitage starts in Petra, following the paved road and involves a walk of a little over an hour, you can also get there by a trail going up from Vilafranca. Pollença - The Puig the Calvary

On the main road from Palma to Pollença at kilometer 52, you will see a sign pointing to the Puig de Maria. Here we start the climb up to the Sanctuary, which takes about an hour and a half.
