January Fiestas & Main Events

5 January Three Kings Celebration (Cabalgata de los Reyes Magos)
A parade celebrating the eve of The Epiphany, where the Kings (the three wise men who followed a star to find the baby Jesus) form part of a procession of floats through many towns in Mallorca.

16 & 17 January Sant Antoni
Sant Antoni is the patron saint of animals and jobs connected to rural life. Some towns celebrate this saint with a local holiday and fun parades & street parties. 

20 January Festes de Sant Sebastia, Patron Saint of Palma
This is one of Palma's biggest festivals of the year. Sant Sebastian is the city's patron saint, and a variety of recreational activities are held in his honour.

February Fiestas & Main Events

3 February Sant Blai
This event takes place in Sant Joan. To ward off sore throats, the local villages are anointed with the Sant Blai holy oil.

Weekend before the start of Lent - Carnival!
The carnival, also known as Darrers Dies (the last days) recognises the last days before Lent when Christians are allowed to indulge in pleasurable activities, is celebrated 40 days before Easter. It is a mix of games and processions of decorated floats and takes place in Palma and elsewhere on the island.  

Shrove Tuesday
The ceremonial burial of The Sardine in Son Carrio - part of the final celebrations before Lent begins.

March & April Fiestas & Main Events

Semana Santa Holy Week
The triumphant arrival of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem is acknowledged throughout Mallorca, sarting with blessings on Palm Sunday and parades throughout the week.

Easter Thursday
Thursday sees the biggest parades to celebrate Easter, with the most colourful being in Palma de Mallorca.

Good Friday
Many churches hold special services where local children and youth groups perform scenes from the bible to commerorate the death and rebirth of Jesus.

 Easter Sunday & Los Pancaritats
Churches throughouit Mallorca hold special services on easter Sunday. The following days see 'pancaritats' held; these are pilgrimages to Majorca's shrines and hermitages and followed by mass picnics.

May Fiestas & Main Events

2nd Sunday of May Moros i Cristians, Soller
Soller's great mock battle between the invading Moorish pirates and the plucky defending Christian villagers is one of the highlights of the year. Expect firecrackers, plenty of fancy-dress and street parties that carry on through the night.

2nd Sunday of May - Sant Miquel, Son Carrio
Son Carrio's patron saint is celebrated on this day with a fair and a toast supper.

June Fiestas & Main Events

20 June Romeria de Sant Marcal
A market and exhibition of siurell and ornaments in Marratxi.

23 June Nit de Foc
One of the most popular festivals in Palma de Mallorca, called Nic de Foc (Night of Fire), takes place on the eve of Midsummer. The huge bonfires and fireworks displays, held each year in the Parc de la Mer, mark the beginning of of Mallorca's summer fiestas.

There is also the Fiesta del Solque Bailla in Muro.

24 June Sant Joan Fiesta
On this day, the locals celebrate Sant Joan (John the Baptiste) along with the summer solstice throughout Majorca.

28 & 29 June Sant Pere Fiesta
Processions of fishing boats in Palma, Port d'Andratx and Port d'Alcudia in honour of the patron saint of fishermen.

July Fiestas & Main Events

15 & 16 July Verge del Carma
Another fishermens' fiesta, with celebrations dedicated to the virgin, the patron of fishermen. 

19 - 24 July Sá Mostra International Folklore Festival
The Majorcan town of Sóller hosts this annual festival, a week of lively music and dance shows. The performance groups hail from all over the world, making this an interesting and culturally diverse event.

25 July Saint Jaume
Fiestas held throughout the island.

27& 28 July Santa Catalina Thomas
Homage to Mallorca's patron saint in her home town of Valldemossa.

Last Sunday of July Fornells
Local Fiestas.

August Fiestas & Main Events

2nd August Mock Battle between Moors and Christians, Pollenca
In Pollenca the battle is between the local hero Joan Mas and the pirate invasion of the Moors led by Dragut Rais. 

10 August Sant Llorenc Fiesta
A week of events including sporting, musical and cultural activities to celebrate the town's patron saint.

23 & 24 August Sant Bartomeu Fiesta
Devil-dancing in Montuiri at one of Mallorca's oldest festivals.

28 August Sant Agusti Fiesta
Cavallets dances in Felanitx, with children dressed up as cardboard horses being chased to the accompaniment of bagpipes, flutes and drums.

September Fiestas & Main Events

First two weeks in September Festivities of King Jaume I
At the beginning of September there is a two week festival that commemorates the landing of King Jaime I in Mallorca, featuring mock battles between the Moors and Christians. 

First weekend in September Les Festes de La Beata Santa Catalina Tomás
The town of Santa Margalida honours its patron saint, Catalina Tomás, with a weekend of celebrations commemorating her beatification by Pope Piu.

8 September Mare de Déu de la Salut
Processions and floral offerings take over Palma during the annual Mare de Déu de la Salut fiesta.

2nd weekend in September Melon Festival, Vilafranca de Bonany
The start of the harvest festivals features melons, figs and relaed fruits in the central town of Vilafranca de Bonany.

Last week of September Fiesta des Vermar, Binissalem
The wine-growing village of Binissalem holds the Sa Vermar to celebrate the grape harvest. Events include a grape treading contest, a giant paella, mass village dinners in the town square, music performances, a giants parade and the grape fight.

October Fiestas & Main Events

First Sunday of October Fiesta of Black Pudding
One for the sausage lovers out there - the Fiesta Torrada d’es Borifarro in Sant Joan is dedicated to the local black pudding & other related delicacies!

First weekend in October Alcudia Fira
Annual agricultural fair with parades, exhibitions, music and dancing. Runs from Friday to Sunday. 

Third Saturday of October Colcada de la Beata, Palma
'The Procession of the Blessed' is a celebration of Santa Catalina Tomás, who was beatified in 1792. A colourful parade through the streets of Palma is followed by music and dancing on the city's squares.

Third weekend October Llucmajor Fair
With arts and crafts on display, exhibitions, horse shows, live music and parties. Runs day and night.

Third Saturday October Pollensa Fire Fair
With live bands, fireworks & fire shows and demons, this is a spectacular evening not for the faint hearted!

Third & Final weekend in October - Inca Agricultural Fair
Horse shows, wine & food exhibitions, handicrafts fair. Runs for three consecutive weekends.

November Fiestas & Main Events

2nd weekend November: Pumpkin Fair, Muro
A small fair to celebrate the humble pumpkin family. Prizes for the buggest pumpkin, pumpkin snacks and treats in the local bars & restaurants, a small funfair and giant pumpkins shipped over from the mainland are all part of this autumn fair.

2nd weekend November: Handicrafts & Artesan Fair, Pollenca
A fabulous arts & crafts fair in Pollenca. Beautifully laid out and quality produce should put this fair on your 'don't miss this' list!

2nd Thursday November: Dijous Bo, Inca
Mallorca's most important agricultural, livestock and commercial fair takes place in Inca, and the Dijous Bo is the day with the biggest celebrations. Don't forget the parties on the nigt before!

3rd weekend November: Honey Fair, Llubi
A very local affair in Llubi, all sorts of honey and honey related products are entered in competitions and are availabkle to try before you buy.

3rd weekend November: Olive Fair, Caimari
A most charming fair in the foothills of the Tramuntana mountains. Tubs and tubs of olives, olive oil and olive related exhibitions. Delightful Mallorcan village life at it's best.

Last weekend November: New Wine Fair, Santa Maria del Camí
One of the centres for Mallorcan wine hosts a small wine fair, with tours and tastings.

Last weekend November: Autumn Fair, sa Pobla
Plenty going on here at this autumn agricultural fair, with farming exhibitions, arts & crafts, markets and a horse show.

Last weekend November: Mushroom Fair, Mancor de la Vall
Another traditional autumn fair, this time dedicated to the forest mushroom the Esclatasang. Expect evenign parties with bonfires and fireworks, followed by daytime marketstalls and feastings.

December Fiestas & Main Events

Throughout December: Christmas Markets
From around the first weekend of December, markets are set up in Palma's squares selling all sorts of religious memorabilia and Christmas gifts.

1st weekend December: Partridge & Agricultural Fair, Montuiri
An excellent fair featuring game and in particular the partridge. 

24 & 25 December: Navidad Christmas
Families in Mallorca celebrate Christmas as we know it. Midnight mass on Christmas Eve is very popular with Majorcan families. The traditional (and UNESCO protected) song, the Sibil-la is sung in many churches before Midnight Mass.

31 December: Ano Nuevo New Years Eve Celebrations
Celebrated all over the island with plenty of spectacular firework displays. Some villages have live music and dancing as well, with eating of the grapes tradition during the count down to midnight. In Palma Festa de l'Estendard is celebrated in honour of the Christian conquest of Palma in 1229, with a procession from the town hall to Mass at the cathedral.
