Figures confirm the island is one of Spain’s leading holiday destinations
by Amy Neville-Eliot | Content Editor | published: 24th Jan, 2012The number of overnight stays in the Balearic Islands last year was 54 million, up 11.7% on 2010. A massive 41.6 million were in Mallorca alone with Palma and Calvia achieving 8.1million and 8.7 million respectively.
Released by the Instituto Nacional de Estadística, the figures show that Mallorca had the second highest number of overnight stays of all Spanish regions, after the Canary Islands.
Despite tough economic conditions, the hotel price index shows average revenue per room was €49.50 in Majorca. This figure is higher than the national average for the year and is up 10.8% versus 2010.
The report showed the increase in overnight stays across Spain is driven by foreign tourists rather than Spanish nationals.
