Cala Major, Mallorca
Traditional beach resort just to the west of Palma de Majorca
Cala Major and its neighbour Sant Agusti were two of Mallorca's earliest resorts; now they are virtually suburbs of Palma. The tourists have moved elsewhere and there is a definite feel of an area that has seen better days. The king still comes though, to his summer residence Marivent, where frequent guests include Britain's Prince Charles.

There is a small beach here and a nice marina. Mallorca's most important art collection is also based in Cala Major. Joan Miro's old house and studio are open to the public (Fundacio Pilar i Joan Miro) and there is a large permanent exhibition of his work on show. The resort still has a number of very good restaurants that also offer wonderful views over the sea towards Palma.
