The roadworks were put in place on Tuesday so that work could begin on the planned round-about at El Molinar.

The new motorway link project being carried out by the Department of Urban Development and Planning is estimated to be costing the Council of Mallorca around €17.94 millions. Work started in July and is estimated to be completed by the end of the year. They are hoping that there will be minimum disruption to the highway traffic to and from the airport.

In response to yesterdays delays and traffic jams the Council of Mallorca, pointed out that two accidents or car breakdowns occurred at rush hour, and thus the traffic flow was halted, so delays yesterday were not entirely due to the roadworks.

If you are travelling from the airport towards Palma, the road has been reduced to two lanes and there is a reduced speed limit in operation. The Council recommends the use of alternative routes, such as in the parallel sections of the highway Palma-Manacor. They have released a document with the suggested alternatives.

So the message to drivers: drive safe, use diversions when sign posted and plan your journey with alternative routes where possible.
