These disciplinary actions started by the Balearics Government have to do with offences taking place at protected natural spaces or against endangered species.

Most of them were due to people camping in protected areas or boats anchored at marine reserves, especially posidonia seagrass fields. Authorities have stressed the damage that these activities cause to fragile ecosystems like dunes.

Party boats are also being closely watched. Last May a new law forbidding their presence at the Natural Park of Ses Salines (Ibiza) and Formentera was passed, but in July and August four ships were spotted in the area. One of these parties was organised by a very well-known soft-drinks company, with an attendance of no less than 200 people!

The new Balearics government is taking serious measures against environmental offences, so gather as much information as you can before planning a camping or boat trip.
