Restaurant Reviews in Mallorca
Tasca de Blanquerna Restaurant, Palma de Mallorca
by Nicola Henderson | Site Editor | published: 13th Oct, 2011Placa Espana is the major transport hub in the centre of Palma. It is where most of the buses & trains start their journeys, and where you catch the traditional wooden train to Soller. As such, there are a number of less refined dining establishments in the area, where you can fork out not insignificant sums for rather ordinary fare (no transport pun intended!). So it is good to know that there are some seriously good alternatives in the vicinity where you are guaranteed a good feed at a decent price. ...read more
DIGUI Restaurant, Palma de Mallorca (now called Es Jardinet)
Tapas & seafood
by Nicola Henderson | Site Editor | published: 5th Oct, 2011A Friday night is never a good night to be sat at home in Palma, with no food in the fridge, and no real thought about where would be good to grab a nice meal. The Frenchman and I pondered our choices from the comfort of the sofa, knowing that as soon as we stepped outside we would be destined to trample the streets for at least an hour searching for a mutually acceptable restaurant. ...read more
Restaurant Review - 365 Restaurant, Son Brull, Pollenca
by Chris Richard | Editor | published: 27th Sep, 2011Nestled in the foothills of north-west Mallorca sits the majestic Son Brull Hotel & Spa. Once a monastery, this imposing building has been beautifully restored and then modernised to create the classic old-meets-new interior - we were immediately impressed... You enter the hotel through the most enormous glass door, just opening it brought a smile to our faces with its sheer grandueur and weight; and continue into the inner courtyard where the horses were once kept. ...read more
Restaurant Review - Simply Fosh, Palma de Mallorca
by Nicola Henderson | Site Editor | published: 12th Jul, 2010Discreetly located in an unassuming street in the old town of Palma lies one of the islands most talked about restaurants. Marc Fosh is one of those celebrity chefs who has an opinion and is not afraid to share them. He received a Michelin star for his efforts at Bacchus before starting up his own restaurant, Simply Fosh, in the fashionable Hotel Misseo. We decided to go check it out. ...read more
Bonaire Bistro & Cafe, Palma de Mallorca
by Nicola Henderson | Site Editor | published: 5th Jul, 2011We are always on the look-out for decent lunch spots in Palma, where you know you'll get a decent quality lunch at reasonable prices in convivial surroundings - preferably outside on a terrace. So after an impromptu shopping trip on of Avinguda Jaume III, we found ourselves on C/Bonaire (which is just off this main shopping thoroughfare). There are a number of cafes and bars on this street, and it's a popular lunch spot with local workers as well as visitors. ...read more
Es Moli Restaurant, Sant Elm
by Nicola Henderson | Site Editor | published: 16th May, 2011A trip down to the south-west of Mallorca found The Frenchman and I in Sant Elm. A pretty little fishing village, Sant Elm is the closest port to the national park of Sa Dragonera. The scenery in this part of the island is very tropical. With gentle pine-covered hills, palm trees and aquamarine seas, you can almost imagine that you are in the Caribbean. This is not a built up resort - in fact there are only four hotels - so we had thought to stop at one of the little rustic fish restaurants on the front and enjoy the lovely sea views. But as we trundled just beyond the town centre, we passed by a rather discrete but stylish looking restaurant called Es Moli. ...read more
Genestar Restaurant, Alcudia
by Chris Richard | Editor | published: 10th Mar, 2011The Frenchman and I were joined by James (creator our of our site videos) last weekend as we ventured out after a heavier-than-anticipated night in the bars of Palma. Our rather ill-timed destination was the wineries of Binissalem - it was enough to make us break out into a cold sweat. The wisdom of this choice was discussed on the journey, and was unanimously kicked into touch in favour of - you've guessed it - lunch. ...read more
Il Paradiso Restaurant, Cala Major
by Nicola Henderson | Site Editor | published: 17th Feb, 2011Il Paradiso is one of the most intriguing restaurants I have eaten in on Mallorca. Located in Cala Major, just west of Palma, this Italian restaurant sits sandwiched between the Marivent Palace (the official Mallorcan residence of the Spanish Royal family), the Bay of Palma, and a busy road. ...read more
Es Casal Restaurant, Hotel Casal Santa Eulalia
by Nicola Henderson | Site Editor | published: 13th Jan, 2011The north of Mallorca is well known for it's tourist resorts and wonderfully long beaches. What is less well known is that it is home to some of the most beautiful countryside on the island. With the protected natural parks of Llevent, S'Albufera and S'Albufereta, it' no wonder that visitors flock here to enjoy the natural beauty. ...read more
Es Castell Restaurant, Castillo Hotel Son Vida
by Nicola Henderson | Site Editor | published: 14th Dec, 2010Mallorca has a number of very smart hotels linked to golf courses and spas. They tend to be housed in (very) grand properties surrounded by beautiful countryside, and offer a unique escape from everyday living. One such hotel is the Castillo Hotel in Son Vida, about a 10 minute drive to the north west of Palma. It's fabulous location in the hills above Palma give rise to wonderful views of the city and the sea beyond. Add to this the fact that the hotel really is in a castle (albeit one built at the beginning of the 20th century), and you have all the ingredients of an establishment normally only witnessed in James Bond films. ...read more
Opio Restaurant at Puro Hotel, Palma de Mallorca
by Nicola Henderson | Site Editor | published: 4th Nov, 2010The Frenchman recently had a couple of his countrymen over to visit for the weekend. Parisian to boot, the pressure was on to find somewhere suitably ‘chic et sophistiqué, cherie' to impress our visitors on a Friday night in Mallorca. And in fact, it wasn't too difficult to think of several places in Palma that may fit that description. We wanted somewhere with atmosphere to get the evening going, so one obvious choice was the Opio Bar & Restaurant in Puro Hotel, smack in the middle of the gothic quarter of Palma de Mallorca. ...read more
Maricel Senzone Restaurant, Cala Major
by Nicola Henderson | Site Editor | published: 20th Oct, 2010Life can be hectic and stressful, and despite good intentions to ‘slow down' or ‘become better organised' it's all too easy to let time run away from you - even in laidback Mallorca. So there are definitely times when you need to take yourself away from it all, and just stop. A world of five-star luxury perhaps, where you can be cocooned from the outside world for a short time. One such place within easy reach of Palma de Mallorca is the Hospes Maricel Hotel, located on the seafront in Cala Major, Majorca. The Frenchman and I had clocked this place a while ago, and had decided that this was the ideal place to escape to in times of stress. Sadly unable to stay for a night, we had opted instead for a simple dinner in their Senzone Restaurant. The prospect of ‘revitalising' and ‘rejuvenation' promised by the hotel website was irresistible. ...read more
Restaurant Review - Tristan Restaurant, Puerto Portals
by Chris Richard | Editor | published: 12th Oct, 2010Having got used to Mallorca’s laid back lifestyle, the Frenchman and I have become accustomed to dressing in our more casual attire of shorts and flip flops for most occasions. But when you have dinner booked at one of the most prestigious restaurants on the island, you realise that it’s time to seek out the smarter selection of clothes in the wardrobe. We were to going to be dining at Tristan, a Michelin starred restaurant in Puerto Portals, Majorca - the most glamorous restaurant in what is regarded as the most glamorous marina on Mallorca. ...read more
Restaurant Review - Sa Pedrissa, Deia
by Nicola Henderson | Site Editor | published: 11th Oct, 2010Whenever there is a poll about which country is the most romantic nation, France always seems to come up top. The image of a handsome and passionate Frenchman always seems to set the ladies pulses racing. Sadly, the most romantic gesture that MY Frenchman makes is gifting me a red pen torch ‘for when my car breaks down in the night’. My knight in shining armour... ...read more
Restaurant Review - Wasabi Blue, Cuidad Jardin
by Nicola Henderson | Site Editor | published: 26th Sep, 2010It’s been said for a while now that the town of Ciudad Jardin is becoming the ‘next big thing’ for hip and happening places to be. Situated to the east of Palma, this small seaside town has a wonderful south-west facing beach with glorious views of Palma and the hills beyond. And with a mix of relaxed sea-front cafes and contemporary restaurants, it’s easy to see why this place has captured the imagination of the next generation of bright young things. ...read more
Restaurant Review - Hotel L'Hermitage Restaurant, Orient
by Nicola Henderson | Site Editor | published: 31st Aug, 2010So another weekend, another drive around the tiny, narrow roads of Mallorca, with the Frenchman cringing every time a car approaches as he imagines the car swerving off the road and tumbling down some ravine. For the umpteenth time, I promise myself never to take him on a day out again. ...read more
Restaurant Review - Aquiara Tapas Bar, Palma de Mallorca
by Nicola Henderson | Site Editor | published: 15th Aug, 2010The Frenchman is one of those people who puts great store by awards and medals, so when we did a search of Mallorca's best restaurants, and saw that a restaurant called Koldo Royo had held a Michelin star for 18 years, it went straight to the top of our list. Run by a chef of the same name, Koldo Royo had gained rave reviews and was considered a flagship restaurant in Palma. I said that I was sure it had closed down a couple of years ago. Nonsense, said the Frenchman, showing me pages from the web with reviews and contact details for the restaurant. ...read more
Restaurant Review - Trianon, Port d'Andratx
by Nicola Henderson | Site Editor | published: 31st Jul, 2010The Frenchman and I arrived in Port d’Andratx without really knowing where we wanted to eat. So we parked up and had a wander around the back streets and the waterfront, perusing menus and clientele. As you might expect, there are a host of fish restaurants, ranging from rustic local hang-outs to smart, linen-tablecloth establishments. This area of Mallorca is much loved by the German as well as the British community, so many of the restaurants are German-run. ...read more
Restaurant Review - Cases de Son Barbassa, Capdepera
by Nicola Henderson | Site Editor | published: 14th Jun, 2010The Frenchman and I were up in the north-east of Mallorca over the weekend, enjoying the luscious green countryside and idly toying with the idea of actually getting out of the car to explore a little on foot. “Oh no!”, said The Frenchman, “can't we just open the windows and hang our heads out a bit?”. ...read more
Restaurant Review - Wellies Restaurant & Bar, Puerto Portals
by Nicola Henderson | Site Editor | published: 28th May, 2010One of the most glamorous places to hang out in Mallorca is down by the harbour in Puerto Portals. This is where you'll find the multi-million pound yachts, chic and exclusive boutiques, and an array of smart restaurants and cafes. One of the best eateries in this area is Wellies Bar & Restaurant. Part upmarket cafe, part stylish restaurant, part late-night bar, Wellies is one of those places that just fits the bill whatever you are looking for. ...read more
