Busy Beaches in Mallorca & Palma de Majorca

Sa Calobra Beach, MallorcaFamous beach on the west coast of Majorca

Sa Calobra is an unusual part pebble/part sand beach situated at the end of a gorge made from the Torrent de Pareis. It is one of the most famous spots on Majorca and has been an inspiration for artists in the past.

However, these days it has become a victim of it's own beauty, and throughout the year you will find bus loads of tourists descend on the place. It is a nightmare journey through the mountains, up and down a twisty, narrow, steep road that will take you about an hour from the junction off the Ma-10 (the road north from Soller, between Morro de sa Vaca and Morro de sa Corda). You will need to time your journey so that you avoid the coaches on the way down in the morning, and on the way up in the afternoon.  And don't forget the hundreds of road cyclists that consider the descent/ascent one of the best challenges in Mallorca.

By far the best way to see Sa Calobra and the Torrent de Pareis is by boat (you can catch a passenger boat in the Port de Soller or charter your own boat), or by car, or by hiking down through the Torrent de Pareis in the cooler off-season.

Sa Coma is a large and popular beach situated five kilometres from Porto Cristo in the east of Majorca. Another resort beach, it is in a fairly built up area which means it is very busy during peak times. The beach is made from fine white sand, and the sea is clear and shallow. 

There is a promenade behind the beach which protects it from excessive traffic noise and pollution. There are many (mainly British) restaurants, bars and cafes on the promenade. Water sports and windsurfing are available here. Car parking is available and access is also possible by Mallorca's public bus service.

The resort of Cala Millor was created around what must have once been one of Majorca's most wonderful beaches. Go out of season and you will discover a generous white sand beach with beautiful turquoise blue seas. 

The beach is characterised by fine, white sand and the shallow water makes it ideal for children to play in. Of course, during the busy Mallorca holiday season, the beach gets very crowded and busy but there is still alot of fun to be had by families.

 Water sports and wind-surfing are available and there are many beach front restaurants. Car parking is available and access is also possible by public bus. It is a superb spot, but we recommend that to enjoy it at it's best, try to go outwith the summer months.

Palma Nova Beach, MallorcaPopular beaches serving Palma Nova resort in the south west of Majorca

Palma Nova itself is a purpose built resort just around the corner from Magaluf in the south west of Majorca, popular with British package holiday makers. There are three beaches that serve the resort - Playa Carregador to the east by the small marina, Playa Palma Nova in the middle, and Playa Son Maties to the west (and next to Magaluf).

All three beaches are large, with golden sands and lovely clear blue seas. Playa Son Maties is the beach with all the new cool bars, offering a great spot to have a drink and watch the action on the beaches. This part of Mallorca is getting a bit of a face lift so expect new bars to keep opening and facilities to keep improving.

There are many standard restaurants and bars located on the promenade behind the beach and you can partake in a variety of water sports here. A host of shops selling lilos, novelty inflatables and buckets & spades can be found all along the promenade. Free car parking is available and access is also possible by public bus.
