Cala Santanyi Beach, South-East Mallorca

A delightful 'Blue Flag' beach in the southeast of Majorca

featured in Beaches Updated

Located in a pretty cove with lovely fine sand, surrounded by rocky cliffs and pine forests, it’s no wonder Cala Santanyi is such a popular beach amongst those staying within the large resort-style hotels in this area. It's more than likely to be crowded with the lucky holidaymakers who have tumbled out of their hotel bedrooms onto the sand directly below.

At 130 metres long and around 80 metres wide, the beach can easily accommodate the crowd so expect to find yourself amongst happy families dutifully arranging their towels and snorkels.

A mini mart and a few casual beach cafes or restaurants can be found in the petite village of Cala Santanyi (not to be confused with the village of Santanyi further north and inland… offering extensive local and international cuisine, as well as regular live music).

Setting & Location

Cala Santanyi is located at the end of a narrow inlet on Mallorca’s southeast coast. Surrounded by large trees and scenic rocky terrain, the bay presents a small and relatively unspoiled holiday resort 10km southwest of the larger east-coast resort Cala d’Or. Make sure you visit the nearby and more private Cala Llombards, just 15 minutes’ drive further southwest of Cala Santanyi, it similarly has spectacular scenery, but with less tourists.

Water Safety & Clarity

Both shallow and calm, the sea here is ideal for children. Boats often revert to this cove as a safe haven during stormy seas.

There are showers, toilets and access for the disabled. Lifeguards are on duty during the summer season.

Beach Quality

The rocky ‘Blue Flag’ bay presents a lovely sandy beach similar to that of Cala d’Or, but it is remarkably more spacious in terms of population density. Here you’ll find sun loungers, shades, fine-grained sand, and clear calm water. The perfect beach for a lazy day.

Watersports Nearby

Pedalos, snorkelling and diving are about as extreme as the water sports get in the sleepy cove of Cala Santanyi. The local dive school can guide you around the many neighbouring submerged caves, whilst the bay’s sheltered water makes it a superb area for simply snorkelling and spotting fish.

Directions

Located 6 km south from the quaint and rural village of Santanyi, there is a large car park right next to the beach and some available parking within the village streets. A bus also runs regularly from the neighbouring resort of Cala d’Or.
