Celebrate the spookiest night of the year on the island

featured in News & reviews Author Ana Hernández, Mallorca Editor Updated

Traditionally, Mallorcans would celebrate All Hallows' Day ('Tots Els Sants') instead of All Hallows' Eve. People would visit the local cemeteries and bring fresh flowers to their dead.

However, the Halloween craze reached the island a few years ago and it's only growing stronger each year. Nowadays, you can find scary themed parties along with more traditional celebrations.

These are our hand-picked events for the spookiest night of the year.

Nit de les Animes

Palma's local associations are trying to recuperate the island's traditional All Hallows' Eve festivities. On Saturday, November 2nd head to Sa Riera Park for a true Mallorcan celebration with demon parades, typical sweets, live music, lots of entertainment for children and even a guided tour of the local cemetery at night.

No All Hallow's celebration is complete without trying one of Mallorca's traditional 'Tots els Sants' sweets. Bunyols, which are usually prepared for the 'Nit des Verges' festival in October, are also eaten on November 1st, usually filled with custard, chocolate or cream. But the most unique 'Tots Els Sants' gourmet creation on the island is the 'Rosari ensucrat'. These sweet necklaces are created with edible beads made of marzipan, sugar frosted fruit, chocolates and small cakes and hung up around the island's bakeries. Tradition says that godparents give them as presents to their godchildren.
