Overnight on Sunday a fire in one of the rooms at the Mallorca Rocks Hotel led to the evacuation of around 100 British Tourists.

The fire was believed to have been in one of the bedrooms where two suitcases full of clothes had caught light. Dense smoke quickly filled the surrounding area and as a precautionary measure two apartment blocks in the hotel were evacuated.

One of the maintenance technicians, who had tried to put the fire out, was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

Residents were evacuated to the communal areas and courtyards of the hotel, and the fire was quickly brought under control.

At the moment the cause of the fire is unknown. The room is said to have been occupied by two Brits.
