Airport Highway Construction Will Mean Major Diversions
November will be a testing time for motorists in the Palma area
The construction of the exit at El Molinar that will lead to Palma airport means that that stretch of road will be subject to severe restrictions, plus temporary and full road closures.
Traffic will be redirected to the smaller Cami Fondoroad to the north to bypass the area. The Council of Mallorca delayed these works until winter so as not to impede the tourist traffic to and from the airport, over the busy summer months. However, now commuters and Islanders from the East must makes plans to take other routes to miss the area where work will be carried out, in order to avoid what will no doubt be substantial delays.
The future exit will increase traffic flow and offer a new approach to the Palma marine district of El Molinar. In addition to the new road, a new bike path will also be built, which will lead across the highway and into the hinterland of the island.
