Balearic Wine up 6% in 2013

Wines from the Islands enjoy a bumper year

featured in News & reviews Author James Fisher, Mallorca Video Reporter Updated

Wine in the Balearic islands of Ibiza, Mallorca, Menorca and Formentera grew, harvested and bottled 5.97% more wine in 2013 than in 2012 with the Vi de la Terra Mallorca recording the highest production.

The four islands produced a total of 51,681.43 Hectolitres of wine in 2013. This is a 5.97% increase on the year before and a second most productive year in the last ten with only 2010 yeilding more.

The figures are not interesting simply because more wine was produced but that they show the overall industry growing with more land being used, more grapes being harvested and more wine yeilded. The Mallorca wine industry has been growing steadily in the past few years and hopefully these figures are an indication of future growth.
