In this small town right in the centre of Mallorca the local Council has acted in response to a string of illegal gatherings and parties which have crowded the town of Sencelles.

In a town of only 300 inhabitants there have been as many as 7000 people coming together for various Biniali parties and social gatherings on weekend evenings. This has not only caused great noise disturbance to the local residents, but also vandalism of property in some cases. The City Council of Sencelles has now banned bottles and drinking in public in an effort to put an end to such issues.

Mayor Morro Bartomeu said yesterday that the development of the legislation was done in collaboration with the police, social services and the Institut Mallorquí Afers Socials (IMAS). Fines of between €400 and €3000 could be enforced if anyone is caught drinking in public in the town. They are also considering the possibility that fines may be substituted for community service for adolescents.
