Children returned to school today in Mallorca after over two weeks of teacher's strikes but staff and parents remain opposed to the TIL.

Teachers returned to their classes after a public reading of a manifesto made it clear that they were making a "Change of strategy, but with the same goals." These goals have been outlined in five points in the manifesto.

Firstly they call for a withdrawal of TIL in exchange for foreign languages being promoted in schools. Secondly the manifesto asks for an immediate suspension of TIL. Thirdly the teachers who have voluntarily accepted TIL should be supported and have the resources necessary made available to them. Fourth the teachers ask that TIL should be voluntary at all levels if it is to exist and finally that a referendum be held so that teachers could vote on TIL themselves.

The Government has rejected all these proposals.

The teachers now plan not to teach the TIL system this year, which requires some lessons to be taught in English, this year and have vowed that any action taken against individuals who defy the government's wishes for TIL to be taught will be met with group action.

The battle continues on.
