It has been decided that a new department will be established in order to stengthen relations between Hoteliers in the Playa de Palma area in the popular tourist destination of Palma de Mallorca.

Two officials will, in future, keep direct contact with the hoteliers and so improve safety on the main tourist strip. This will include improving the exchange of information and should allow for problems to be solved much faster, according to a press release from the city. A pilot project was begun last April and has shown good results, the hoteliers received regular contact and got to know the officers on a more personal level which improved relations, and the officers in turn could advise them directly in terms of safety and on local matters.

In Playa de Palma alone, there are 183 hotels with 40,150 beds, and in addition, there are 60,000 people registered as residents. The idea of dedicated team of officers to service the tourist industry here is welcomed and there are hopes that the force will increase over the coming year to include other tourist areas.
