Organisers of the 2012 Mallorca Challenge cycle race have confirmed that the Schleck brothers will be competing in this traditional opening race of the Spanish cycling calander event, to be held in February next year. Andy & Frank Schleck, who finished 2nd & 3rd in this years Tour de France, will form part of the new RadioShack-Nissan-Trek team.

The race has attracted other big names in the cycling world, with Katusha, Rabobank, Omega Pharma-Quick-Step, Lotto-Belisol, Team Sky, Cofidis and Team NettApp all being confirmed. Top British riders for Sky include Mark Cavendish and Bradley Wiggins, although both of these riders have yet to be confirmed for the race.

The Majorca Challenge is an international event and attracts many of the top teams in the cycling world. It consists of a series of five one-day races held throughout the island, and is now sponsored by Spanish hotel chain Iberostar after the event ran into financial difficulties last year.

Mallorca is much loved by the professional (as well as amatuer) cycling teams for training purposes during the winter & spring months, thanks to the mild, sunny climate, diverse landscape and quiet roads.

The race will take place from 5th to 9th of February 2012 - for further information about the race, please see the Vuelta Mallorca website.
