Apparently it is Spring but if you're in the UK you would be forgiven for thinking it's still the depths of Winter!

The recent snow drifts and icy cold winds that have been reducing temperatures to freezing in the UK have been good news for hoteliers in Mallorca, as many Brits are booking last minute breaks to the sun.

It was only last week that Mallorcan hoteliers were reporting low occupancy numbers and a shaky start to the tourist season. However with the recent bout of snow, according to the Mallorca Hotel Business Federation (FEHM), many hotels across Mallorca are booked to around 70% capacity during the Easter week, which is optimum for this time of year.

Platja de Palma has seen the best results with an average of 75% occupancy in hotels in this area. Some hotels will even reach 100% due to the cycling tourists from Germany, Britain and Scandinavia. Over the past few months the Playa de Palma area has been renovated to encourage off-peak season tourists, such as cyclists, hikers and hillwalkers to the area and now offers 20 cycling specific hotels.

On Sunday the Son Sant Joan airport in Palma de Mallorca is expecting a record  number of passengers with 76,070 people arriving on 450 flights, all seemingly escaping the bad weather.
