Easyjet today announced details of routes that will operate from London Southend Airport, its newest base, from April 2012. The UK's largest airline will offer up to 70 flights a week to a total of eight destinations, five of which are in Spain.

Located in Essex, just outside London, the airport is a short walk from a new train station with quick links into stations at Liverpool Street and Stratford. Seats went on sale today, with the first flight to Palma scheduled on 1st May 2012.

The news comes just two weeks after Easyjet reported that Spain remained a firm favourite with British holidaymakers, with four of the top five UK Easyjet destinations being Spanish resorts or cities. Palma de Mallorca was the third most popular destination after Malaga and Alicante. Faro, in Portugal, was in fourth place, followed by the ever popular city break destination of Barcelona.

Paul Simmons, UK Director of EasyJet, said, "the sandy shores, blue seas and promise of sunshine keep Brits flocking to Spain year after year for a relaxing summer break."
