Encouraging figures for tourism this summer

featured in News & reviews Author Nicola Henderson, Site Editor Updated

Tourism in Mallorca had a good month this July, with a 12% increase in spending recorded when compared to last years figures. The Balearic government is delighted with the news and has made efforts to ensure that the success continues into September and the winter season. A blitz on the UK press and media promoting Mallorca has been in force during August and it is hoped that the fruits of this will show in figures for tourism during the remainder of the year.

August looks like it has been a successful month for Mallorca too, with an average hotel occupation of 95% being reported by the Majorcan Hotel Federation. They have also emphasised that whilst the figures are great news, it should be remembered that some of this increase is due to a number of special offers and deals that hoteliers were offering. This means that hotel revenue is actually lower than last years. However, if the improved numbers of tourists continues into September, the overall profit should be greater.

Now that the peak family season is over, a new set of visitors tend to come to Mallorca. With average temperatures of 26 degrees in September, a beach holiday is still possible - if not preferable - to the hot holiday months. There are still some great deals to be had at many of the hotels on the island as they look to increase occupancy beyond the expected 75%.
