A fireman died yesterday whilst attempting to put out a fire in a bar in the s'Escorxador district of Palma City. 34 year old Alejandro Millán was married with a young son. He was fighting the fire with two colleagues when the roof caved in on them. It is thought that he removed his oxygen mask and inhaled poisonous fumes, which brought about a heart attack. Despite repeated attempts to resuscitate him at the scene, the emergency service were unable to save his life.

The fire had broken out on Friday evening at 6pm at 'Jamon Jamon' on Andreu Feliu. There were no customers on the premises at the time of the fire. The two other firefighters were taken to hospital, suffering from smoke inhalation and minor burns.

This is the first death in action of a firefighter in 150 years of the Palma fire service.
