Free cycle hire for Palma's 'Bicipalma' next year

featured in News & reviews Author Nicola Henderson, Site Editor Updated

Palma's council has announced that their public cycle hire scheme Bicipalma will be free of charge for the first six months for those who have a Citizens Card. The long administration procedure required to agree a charge for the cycle hire scheme means that it is unlikely to gain approval before the scheme is launched, hence the decision to initially provide the service for free.

The council hope that this decision will provide an extra incentive to members of the public to utilise the bicycles and that it will in the long run produce more users of the service. It is likely that Bicipalma will be launched in March 2011, although an exact date has not yet been announced. 28 bike stations are planned at locations throughout Palma, some of which are placed next to bus stops to encourage ease of use.

You can apply for a Citizens Card at Integrated Units of Attention to the Public (UIAP) offices - for more information on how to apply, see this website.
