The La Lllonja district in Palma de Mallorca has unveiled a new initiative to attract visitors during the quieter winter months. A range of street markets are set to take place with live music and cookery displays, offering tourists and locals the chance to sample regional specialities in this historic setting.

The plans were presented earlier this week by the president of the bar and restaurant association, Alfonso Robredo, and Palma councillor for commerce, Esperanca Crespi.

Stands across the area will be offering tasty samples of specially chosen dishes and wines for around €2 to €3. Meanwhile, in the restaurants there will be fixed price menus reflecting the cuisine on offer in the streets. In all, there are a total of 40 bars and restaurants across six streets in the La Llonja district.

The imposing La Llonja exchange building, commissioned by the Merchant’s Guild and completed in 1452, has recently undergone extensive restoration works. Now a cultural centre, it is currently playing host to a series of exhibitions, attracting yet more visitors to this popular area.
