Happy Mondays, Space and Chopin in Mallorca

My top five events for this week in Mallorca

featured in News & reviews Author James Fisher, Mallorca Video Reporter Updated

This week in Mallorca we've got music from the Happy Mondays at Mallorca Rocks and Chopin in Valldemossa plus pool parties in Magaluf and Fiesta and fire runs in Esporles.

The Open Air Festival in Porreres on Saturday 18th August is an all day music festival with Moltov, Zombie Kids and Yall and other bands playing in the Parc de N'Hereveta. To be honest I've never heard of any of these bands but it should be a good party and after "googling" Zombie Kids I was pleasently surprised, they're a bit like MGMT. Catch them now and sound smug when they become popular later.

The second event in this week's top five is another traditonal Mallorcan festival. The Festival Vilanova in Esporles is currently in full swing and finishes on Sunday the 19th at midnight with a fire run through the town. These fire runs are impressive spectacles that may not have the organisation and expense of the Olympic opening ceremony but make up for that by being fascinatingly terrifying with little regard for health and safety.

For more classic entertainment the Chopin Festival in Valldemossa will be holding piano recitals on Sunday 19th and 26th of August in the cloisters in Valldemossa.

On Tuesday it's another musical event this time down in the Magluf hotel Mallorca Rocks. The Happy Mondays are making a return to the stage and although some people on internet forums seem to think that this isn't that interesting, I think it might be a good gig.

If the Happy Mondays do disapoint then you can always cheer yourself up on the 25th when Space Ibiza will be coming to the Mallorca Rocks Hotel in Magaluf for a pool party which could be the most fun of the summer.

There are loads of other festivals, markets, concerts and exhibitions on this week and for more information on them all have a look at out Events Calendar.
