As the start of July arrives so has the heat, temperatures have been up in the thirties this week here in Palma, making them two degrees higher than normal for this time of year. This is just the start as it is expected that the temperatures could get up to 5 degrees hotter than normal.

According to head of the Balearic Meteorological Agency, Agustí Jansà, temperatures have reached 34.3 degrees which is above normal. Temperatures are not expected to come down, only rise slightly over the next few days.

Temperatures are not dropping by a lot at night and have been classed as tropical - this is when temperatures don’t go below 20 degrees. Indeed, every night of this month has been tropical! On Sunday and Monday nights, temperatures dropped to a minimum of 22.9 degrees. On Tuesday the minimum stood at 22.4 degrees, said the meteorologist.

A high temperature alert has been issued by the government. The advice is to keep a bottle of water with you, to leave high exertion activities to the cooler parts of the day, to wear light clothing, and to protect your head against direct sunlight during the hottest part of the day (11am to 6pm).
