La Residencia promotes organic farming in Deia

In recognition of the growing demand for natural and organic produce, La Residencia Hotel in Deia has agreed a partnership with the local farming cooperative to put its land into commercial production. The area used to be farmed for olives, carobs and oak wood but has been left wild for many years.

The hotel sits in 32 acres of mountainside land which will be cultivated to produce organic olive oil. The existing olive groves are centuries old and will produce a distinctive 'Denominación de Origen' oil that can be marketed as a specialist product. This is not the first foray into organic farming for the hotel - they already have an organic kitchen garden where herbs and vegetables are grown and used in the restaurant.

In addition to the oil, almond trees have been planted and will make a show-stopping sight on the mountainside when they flower at the end of January. With the dry stone terraces in the area being restored by specialists and the existing sheep and donkeys who graze on the mountainside, the area will become even more attractive for visitors and nature lovers.
