A legal requirement for property owners to remove barriers on the old path between Lluc Sanctuary and Pollensa is to be enforced over the next month to ensure the path is completely accessible to walkers and hikers.

Three months ago the Council of Mallorca announced plans to remove private fences along the old path on the road between Lluc and Pollenca by publishing a public order. This route is a traditional and popular route for walkers but over the years, barriers such as driveway gates and fences have been erected by property owners in the area to stop trespassers.

Councellor Margalida Roig met with representatives from Pro Camins Oberts (a group in favour of public access footpaths) in order to come up with a plan to allow walkers the right to access the path.

Councellor Roig will speak to owners of houses along the Lluc Pollenca road to encourage them to remove fences and driveway gates to allow walkers right of way to continue along the path.

On the 25th November a protest walk is planned when it is hoped that all driveway gates will be removed. Those from the Pro Camins Oberts group have said that if the barriers are not removed by the 25th November, they will try to remove them themselves.

It is to be noted that the path will only be accessible by foot and cars will not be able to drive along this route.
