Mallorca already in good position for British tourism in 2013
Package holiday bookings already up by 5% from this time last year
Already the World Travel Market is showing optimistic results in a survey of tour operators at an exhibition in London. ABTA are saying that the Balearic islands will be one of the most popular holiday destinations in 2013, beating places like Turkey, Egypt and Greece.
The main reason for this optimism is the increased sales of tourist holiday packages which are 5% higher than they were this time last year. The confidence of British consumers is said to have increased and holiday makers are now taking advantage of the strength of the pound against the Euro.
The sale of package deals in the Balearic Islands has increased 5% from this time last year; 4% higher in Mallorca, 13% higher in Menorca and 3% in Ibiza. Between Christmas and late January bookings are expected to boom as people start to think of their summer holidays.
One reason that Mallorca could be increasingly popular is that the Son Sant Joan airport in Palma is less effected by Air Passenger Duty (APD) tax. This tax has resulted in an 8% increase in the cost of flights which makes holidaying in Europe relatively cheaper and therefore more popular than travelling to places such as America or the Caribbean.
