The police in Playa de Palma will launch and effort, once again, to reduce the amount of drinking in the street in the Mallorca beach resort of Playa de Palma.

The strip of beach in front of Palma Airport is a popular beach destination for young tourists, especially those from Germany. In the past the beach front promenade has filled up at night with holiday makers drinking the cheap supermarket spirits available along the strip.

In the past this has caused problems like littering and fighting as well as for the bars who are losing customers. This summer special police units, accompanied by translators will patrol the Playa de Palma beach front in an effort to move people from the street into the bars and hotels. There will be a tolerence zone outside Mega Park but elsewhere along the beach the police will work from 10pm until 1am and although they will not be fining drinkers it is hoped that they can dissuade holiday makers from the practice of drinking in the street.
