Mallorca businesses win from world cup celebrations

Since Spain’s victory win of the football World Cup last week, businesses in Mallorca have reaped the benefits from locals and tourists alike. Some local businesses had takings of double or even triple the amounts than usual in June and July when the matches were on.

The restaurants and bars with big screens were clearly more popular with clients who consumed more food and drinks during and after the matches.

The popular areas where punters have been spending up large have been Palma, Palmanova and Magaluf. Mallorca had felt the drop in sales from the recession like most parts of the world, but have since said the football fever has brought everyone back out and spending money again.

It’s not just been bars and restaurants that have gained out of the boost in sales. Supermarkets have reported an increase in sales of drinks both alcoholic and non alcoholic, which  have risen by 5 percent in comparison with the same time last year. Even the sales of televisions are up by 20 percent.

Of course the most popular items sold were the Spanish flag, scarves and shirts, with some shops even running out before the final match.
