Mallorca golf courses bring in over 100 million a year

Golf courses in Mallorca are some of the most popular in Europe

Bradley Wiggins and David Cameron might be grabbing all the Mallorca holiday headlines at the moment but there's recently been a study carried out by KPMG that points to one of Mallorca's top past times and it isn't cycling, it's golf. According to the survey golf in the Balearics brings in a total of 161 million Euros to the nations economy. Although the the report included all the Balearic islands the main source of this income is Mallorca as 24 of the 26 golf courses in the islands are on Mallorca.

In 2011 Spain received 1 million foreign golfers which equates to about 35% of European golf tourists, these golfers then generated 1.2 billion Euros for the Spanish economy. On average golfers in 2008 spent €165 a day in Mallorca and tended to stay in four and five star hotels.

It's easy to see why golf in Mallorca is so popular. There are, as I mentioned, 24 courses on the island and the services which accompany them are often excellent with club houses, restaurants and hotels offering comfort and luxury while the weather makes playing a round a warm and sunny experience.

With the August heat waves nearly over and the cooler months of September and October just a few weeks away this is the perfect time to visit Mallorca for a golfing holiday. Have a look at our Golf Courses in Mallorca page to find out more about the courses on the island or book into a Golf Hotel.

It's much easier than cycling too.
