Mallorca in for a hot dry summer

featured in News & reviews Author Melissa Chandler, Mallorca & Palma Correspondent Updated

Despite a longer than usual spring with everyone waiting for the summer to officially arrive, the National Weather Agency (AEMET) announced recently that Mallorca is in for a hotter & dryer summer than usual.

Mallorca experienced the second coldest spring on record this century, and because of this, there is a 70% chance that temperatures this summer across the country are going to be one or two degrees - maybe more - above average. Rainfall is also predicted to be below average for the time of year.

AEMET reported that while the spring months of March, April and May seemed wet, the rainfall was actually within normal boundaries. Additionally, it was somewhat warmer than usual with temperatures 0.6 degrees above the average. The rest of Spain has not been so lucky - this spring has been the second coldest this century, with only the 2004 spring season being colder.

So with a beautiful hot summer forecasted ahead, it’s sure to put a smile on the faces of the residents and tourists alike in Mallorca.
