Miquel Barceló has donated an artwork 'Bitxos Crucificats pel Coso' valued at €35,000 to an auction today in order to help pay off a fine that was imposed on protestors by the political party Partido Popular.

The auction will be held this Saturday in the Auditorium of Porreres and Barceló's where money is hoped to be raised to contribute to paying off €55,000 in fines.

Barceló along with forty other artists are trying to raise money in order to pay off 11 fines, each of €5,000. The fines which have not yet been confirmed, have been imposed on youths who protested against the PP at a town festival in Felanitx last year.

Other artists joining Barceló in donating work for auction are Rafel Joan, Ferran Aguiló and Jaume Canet.

Barceló's most valued painting was sold at auction last year for €4.4m. Barceló is also the artist who created the ceiling in the Human Rights and Alliance of Civilisation Chamber in the United Nations building in Geneva.
