The Government of Mallorca has granted permission for a new shopping centre to be built in Coll d'en Rabassa on the outskirts of Palma. The new centre is being promoted by supermarket mega chain Carrefour and will be annexed to the already existing supermarket in the area creating the largest shopping centre in Majorca with a total area of 65,000 square metres.

Mallorca's new shopping complex will cost 120 million Euros but is expected to create 5000 jobs and attract more than 12 million visitors a year when it opens in the Autum of 2014.

The shopping centre's proximity to both Palma, the airport and the popular Platja de Palma beach resorts should make it a popular destination for shopping in Mallorca. The centre will be built on two floors and is being designed by Broadway Malyan who were involved in the planning of London's "Shard".
