New botanical gardens for Alaro

The team in charge of Soller's botanical gardens are to transform part of the Casal de Son Tugores in Alaro into a new botanical garden featuring native plants of Mallorca and the Balearics. The garden will cover an area of 5000 square metres and will be open to the public next year.

Work has already started on clearing the plot and landscaping the area by introducing pathways and terraces. Planting of native trees, shrubs and flowers is scheduled to begin in March 2011.

In addition to being open to the public, the botanical gardens will be utilised for educational purposes.

The Alaro botanical gardens will join Majorca's other excellent gardens that are open to the public, such as the Jardines Alfabia and Soller Botanical Gardens.
