New Hope for Palma Hotel and Conference Centre

Another chapter in the Conference Centre Saga

featured in News & reviews Author James Fisher, Mallorca Video Reporter Updated

The ongoing saga of the Palma Congress Centre has taken a new turn. A special council session has been scheduled for the 10th of May to decide whether the two sections of the building can be sold separately.

At present the plan is for the site to house both a conference centre and a hotel but with debts estimated at 70 million Euros and the project now two years past it's original completion date the Palma council are looking at new options.

The plan is to sell the hotel section of the project off separately from the conference centre. The hotel is currently further along in its construction and the hope is that is can be finished soon if money can be found. The plan is to keep the land publicly owned but allow the management of the building to be private. At the same time there is an argument to downgrade the status of the site from one of socio-cultural significance to allow investors and developers more flexibility in what they do with the buildings.

Hopefully a resolution will be reached soon and the work can be finished.
