New online portal for organic produce

featured in News & reviews Author Nicola Henderson, Site Editor Updated

The government has launched a website called Aforavila to support organic farming in Mallorca and the Balearic Islands. In collaboration with organic farmers on the island, consumers will be able to buy local organic produce online, and arrange delivery to their home or to a market of their choosing.

Members of the public will be able to order fresh meats and charcuterie, fruit and vegetables, pulses and eggs. Aforavila also features information on organic markets in Mallorca, and fairs and events associated with organic farming. There is also a jobs section, classifieds and a directory of sellers and producers.

The website will help promote and support organic farmers on the islands. Currently there are around 600 organic farms in the region, working 30,000 hectares of land.
