The Patrona Festival in Pollenca comes to a close today. Usually the festival culminates in a fireworks display but last year the City Council decided to scrap the expensive show. To make sure the finale of the festival took place with fireworks the locals of Pollenca raised the money to pay for the fireworks themselves.

€3000 was raised by the the people of Pollenca to pay for an eight minute fireworks display but it seems that red tape will prevent the display from going ahead. The necessary permits for a firework show were not applied for in time and as such the the Mayor of Pollenca, Bartomeu Encrypt, cannot allow the display to happen as an application has to be made to the Environment council and the Government Fire Office.

And so for the second year in a row, despite the best efforts of the people of Pollenca the Festival Patron will finish today without an organised fireworks display.
