Since Palma city council announced it's Ordenanza de Civismo or Ordenanza Civica on 12th May, a "Good Citizen plan" that has been two years in the making, there has been a lot of chat about it in the media.

In the most part people have been reacting to the bikini ban, or ban on wearing swimwear on the streets of Mallorca's capital. Locals seem keen on the ban on the whole, whereas holidaymakers to the Island seem less impressed, espcially when fines will start being enforced at the end of this month.

Other key points that the enforcement will cover are games & gambling on the streets, defacement of public property, begging, use of a public space to ask for sexual services, peeing in public places and consumption of alcohol or drugs in public places.

A minor infringement such as nudity or semi-nudity will carry fines of 50-200 euros (£40-£160), serious infringements 200-400 euros and very serious infringements 400-600 euros.

We'll have to wait and see how these fines will be enforced at the end of this month.
