Plans for Winter Holidays in Mallorca

After record numbers in Palma Airport this Summer plans are made for Winter

The Airport in Mallorca, Palma's Son Sant Joan, had a record number of visitors this summer with 599 000 more than last year and over 3.5 million in August.

This increase in number has been a positive result, especially after the negative forecasts at the start of the summer. As a result winter tourism in Mallorca is expected to rise by 8% and steps are being taken to boost winter holidays on the island.

The Airport has seen a boost in the number of flights to the island from the United Kingdom during the winter months from Ryan Air, Easyjet, British Airways, City Flyer and Monarch as well as Spanish airline Veuling.

There is also a proposed scheme that will boost the traffic to and use of the port for cruise ships. The idea is to use Palma as a port rather than just a stop over point meaning that cruises could begin or end in the capital. For this to work new systems would need to be imposed linking the airport and port and the Minister of the Tourist Department, Carlos Delgardo has begun plans that will be discussed over the coming weeks with the Port Authority and other relevant governing bodies.

Mallorca is a great winter destination especially for golfers and cyclists. In the past travel to the island has been tricky over the winter months but hopefully these new plans will make it easier to visit Mallorca as part of a cruise or a holiday.
