Pollenca has been awarded a €286,000 grant from the Spanish government’s €2 million Heritage Project budget. The money will be used in restoration works to the town's tourism attractions of the Calvari Steps and the Sant Domingo church cloisters.

Pollenca is the first municipal council to benefit from its proximity to Mallorca's Serra Tramuntana mountain range. This area of natural beauty was awarded World Heritage status by UNESCO in June 2011 and so is eligible for grants from the Heritage Project.

The majority of Pollenca's funding will be spent on the Calvari steps which will use €245,000 of the budget. Works include restoration of the steps, the placa at the top and the gardens, to make it more enticing for visitors. A further €41,000 will be spent on the arches of the cloisters of Sant Domingo church. Both renovation projects are due to be completed by June 2013.

These are just two of the projects set out by the Pollenca council and the government in Madrid. A further two projects were to develop a cultural route through the area and also a song about the Serra de Tramuntana.
