The team responsible for the regeneration of Mallorca's Playa de Palma announced yesterday that two projects valued at €6.3 million have been approved by both local businesses and the government. The projects aim to improve the areas around Can Pastilla and Las Maravillas.

The work will begin in October 2012 after the main holiday season is finished and will take six or seven months to complete. The promenade will be re-surfaced, the lighting will be upgraded, and improvements will be made to the public gardens and seating areas. It is hoped that the works will enhance the beach front, making it more pleasurable for holiday makers and thus provide a boost for local shops and hotels.

The Playa de Palma project is considered vital for the future of tourism in the Bay of Palma. The area has one of the best & longest beaches in Majorca and the beach front needs to be updated so that it can compete in todays global holiday market. Funds to realise these plans have been agreed with the central & regional governments, with €10 million to be made available each year for the next four years.
