Road cycling season in Mallorca

Spring time in Mallorca welcomes more than just tree bloosoms and wild flowers. More than 90,000 road cyclists are expected to visit Majorca to enjoy the challenging routes and the countryside during the off-peak season. The government estimates that this group of visitors add €55 million to island's economy.

30% of these cyclists are British, who tend to base themselves in the north of island in Alcudia and Pollenca. Some hotels in these areas have invested in workshops and provide repairs & storage to cater fully for these groups.

Whilst the number of cyclists is small in comparison to the amount of visitors in peak season (close to 8 million), this group is considered important to the tourism industry as they arrive in the quieter months of March, April and May, stay for 7-10 days, and spend more money than those who stay in all-inclusive accommodation during the summer.

Cycling is one of the areas that the government wishes to promote to encourage more visitors in the low season. Hiking (150,000 visitors each year) and golf (100,000 visitors each year) have also been ear-marked as growth areas.
