Ryanair Changes System of Issuing Boarding Passes

Michael O'Leary is at it again, this time with boarding passes

It seems that Ryanair have changed their system for issuing boarding passes in the last week, and you could end up spending even more money on your flights with them than you expected..

We've been contacted by one unhappy Ryanair customer who has just found out that unless he pre-books allocated seating through his travel agent for his return flight, the boarding passes will be sent to his home address before he's due to fly home..i.e. while he's still on holiday! The outbound boarding passes will arrive in time for the trip, but the return boarding passes will be waiting for them at home..

Until recently you could print your boarding card 15 days before departure. The new policy now appears to be that they'll only send the boarding passes by email 7 days to 2 hours before the individual flight is due to take off, thus potentially making more people liable to pay extras fees for either pre-booked seats (£5 or £10 each depending on the seats) or £40 per person for a boarding pass at the airport.

Hotels won't necessarily be happy printing large numbers of boarding passes for clients for their return journeys, resulting in those people incurring an unexpected cost at the end of their holidays. A family of 4 might have to pay an extra £160 they hadn't budgeted for.

Of course if you don't mind paying extra for pre-booked seats you can check in from 30 days before you're due to travel.

I wouldn't want a job on Ryanair's customer service desk..!
