Serving hours extended for terrace bars in Palma
Late night opening for sea front bars with terraces in Palma
Palma CIty Council has decided to allow bars with terraces close to the seafront in Palma & an area of Playa de Palma to open later than usual for the summer. It will now be possible to enjoy al fresco drinking until 1.00am, an hour later than normal during the week, until 15th October.
Deputy Mayor Irene San Gil has recognised that tourists are attracted to these areas because of it's prime location next to sea, and that tourists, particularly from northern Europe, enjoy the chance to relax on an outdoor terrace during the balmy Mallorcan summer nights.
In Palma, the new rule will not apply to bars in the popular La Llonja area as this is deemed to be a special protection area and is also fairly residential - bars with terraces here will need to stop serving outside at 12 midnight (12.30am at weekends). Bars with terraces along the Passeig Maritim will be able to serve their customers until 1.00am.
The area of Jamón de la Playa de Palma will be allowed to open late as a pilot for the rest of the seafront area in s'Arenal & Can Pastilla.
Another area of Palma has had it's outdoor drinking hours cut back. Bars in Sa Gerreria (just to the east of Placa Major) have been instructed to stop their clients drinking outdoors at 11.00pm. This is because it is a residential area and there have been complaints of noise in the past. This is likely to affect the Ruta Martiana which occurs on Tuesday & Wednesday evenings. The Ruta comprises of a collection of bars that offer special prices for a small beer and a tapa in the neighbourhood bars of sa Gerreria.
