Teachers continue to strike as negotiations enter fifth day

The teacher's strike enters it's fourteenth day today in Mallorca and yesterday's fifth day of negotiations fails to resolve the dispute in Palma.

The teachers have been on strike since term was supposed to begin in the middle of September. The dispute is over the governments decision to make schools in Mallorca trilingual, teaching in English, Catalan and Spanish.

Teachers in Mallorca feel that there has not been the training or resources to enable them to be able to teach in English and that the pupils will suffer as a result.

The strike has caused mixed feelings in Mallorca but the support has been obvious during the rallies in the capital with 80 000 people taking to the streets last week.

The strike continues and a resolution seems to be some way off.
