Mallorca is still in the middle of a heat wave and yesterday was one of the hottest days of the summer so far. The thermometers were reading 39.1 degrees yesterday in Colonia Sant Pere (north east Mallorca). Inland in Manacor, the home town of tennis legend Rafael Nadal, the mercury topped out at 38.9 degrees.

Meteorologists are warning that the heat wave is not over yet and today people on Majorca should be aware that the temperatures will keep rising and may hit 40 degrees or more.

The temperatures recorded in Palma have not been so extreme with the maximum official temperature this week being 36 degrees but temperatures at night in the northeast have seldom dropped lower than 25 degrees.

This heat wave is expected to last until tomorrow after which temperatures should begin to fall. The island is still on "yellow alert" and visitors and residents are advised to avoid the hottest part of the day and drink plenty of water.

The forecast for the weekend is that the temperatures will have dropped about six degrees bringing Mallorca back to more normal summer weather to the low 30 ºC's. You can check the weather forecast for Mallorca to keep up to date with daily temperatures.
