featured in News & reviews Author Trine Bregstein, Mallorca Reporter Updated

The Spanish Royal family are on holidays in Mallorca and what better thing to do on a Sunday than visit one of the many markets that you can find dotted about the island. Queen Sofia came to the market in Artà on Sunday.

After dropping off her grandchildren at the sailing school in Calanova, just outside Palma, she made her way to the western region of the island. According to locals and shopkeepers she was very relaxed as she perused the shops and stalls, chatting to locals and posing for photos. Along with her were her sister Princess Irene of Greece and Denmark, and her daughter Infanta Elena.

A local shopkeeper was told by Infanta Elena that they had been recommended to attend the market in Artà. After a spot of shopping and seeing the sights and sounds the Royals made their way back towards Palma. The new King and Queen of Spain, King Felipe and Queen Letizia are rumoured to be joining the rest of the family at the Marivent Palace on the 4th or 5th of August for part of their summer vacation.

With so much to do on the island and so many wonderful markets to visit I am sure they will have a wonderful summer holiday, the jewel that is Mallorca, an island fit for Kings and Queens!
