Thursday Night Fever in Palma de Mallorca

featured in News & reviews Author Chris Richard, Editor Updated

Late night shopping will return to Palma this summer, allowing tourists and locals the opportunity to shop until 9:30 PM, and up to 12 midnight on Thursdays. The initiative, known as 'Thursday Night Fever', will run from June 15th to September 15th to coincide with the main tourist season. A delegation of retailers and hoteliers had met with the Mayor of Palma to discuss ways to enhance the night time feel of  Palma, as there has been some criticism from visitors that the city's normal opening hours (shops usually close at 8:00 PM) do not reflect Palma's status as a major Mediterranean commercial centre.

Shoppers will also be able to enjoy performances from street entertainers during these evenings which the organisers hope will bring a festival atmosphere to the city.  Bars, cafes and restaurants are also in the the act, providing refreshment spots for weary shoppers and for those just wanting to savour the atmosphere. As the main shopping areas are situated in the heart of the historic old town of Palma, visitors will be able to enjoy all the sites of the city whilst they browse.  With the combination of shops, street theatre and outdoor bars & cafes, the hot summer evenings in Palma just got a whole lot cooler!
