Tourist attractions in Mallorca report "Good summer"

Strong tourist numbers and spending in August in Mallorca

Summer attractions in Mallorca like water parks, beach clubs and parks as well as services like transportation have enjoyed a good summer with revenue numbers equal or better than in 2011.

Tourist attractions have fared the best. Despite June and July numbers being down, August was strong and that trend has continued into September. It is thought that the profile of tourists has changed in the latter two months with fewer young tourists and more and more families coming to the island.

Bars and restaurants have seen more irregular numbers. The all-inclusive market has taken its toll on the bars and restaurants in the surrounding areas with holiday makers taking advantage of the complimentary drinks and food in areas like Magaluf and Peguera. Despite this the average revenue is down between 2 to 4% from last year which, in the current financial crisis, is not seen as a problem.

Nightclubs have also enjoyed a good summer as have car rental companies who report an increase of 5% on last years revenue.

The strong summer numbers have been encouraging to Mallorca's tourist board but there are concerned that the slow Easter will be reflected in an equally poor Autumn, and there are reports of business owners complaining that the peak season is getting shorter. The next few months will be important for Mallorca and they have the potential to be great. Although September and October are maybe not the traditional months to lie on the beach, it's still warm enough to do so and you will find there is a whole lot more space on the beaches for you. The autumn is also perfect for golf, cycling, climbing & hiking - there's more to Mallorca than just beaches.
